Tips, Tricks, & Event Prep!

Getting Started:

  • Make sure to download VR chat and create an account
  • Provide us with the Username for your account to be added to the group
  • Take a Tour of the menu by pressing Y on your Oculus Controller. There is a portable menu and a stationary expanded menu. You can get the expanded menu by selecting the expand window symbol in the top right of the portable menu.
  • Update your preferences – make sure you have your preferred comfort controls and select whether you will be seated or standing for the experience.

Tips & Tricks:

  • The X button on the controller will activate and deactivate your microphone. Keep an eye on this, as it’s easy to press and forget.
  • You can pull up the actions menu to send emojis and execute avatar animations. This time, press and hold Y to activate this menu and the left joystick to navigate it.
  • Check out some avatar worlds to find your favorite representation. (We recommend Big Al’s Avatar Corridor to start)
  • You can access the world by opening up your menu, selecting the worlds tab, and searching for the name of the world you want to visit.

Diving In:

  • Remember that you can join worlds publicly or privately. All worlds are automatically public when entering them.
  • To have a private world, select the world, use the New Instance button, and set whether only friends or invited guests can join. You can now drop a private instance portal to travel through.
  • Most importantly, prepare to have fun and meet new people!
